The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, Legon, invites applications from qualified candidates for admission into its PhD in Development Studies programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.

This rigorous doctoral programme is designed to equip candidates with advanced academic and methodological training in understanding the social, economic, and political dimensions of development, particularly within developing country contexts. It prepares graduates for leadership in research, policy, academia, and development practice.

Applications are open for:

  • 4-year Full-Time PhD
  • 6-year Part-Time PhD

Entry Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  • A first degree with at least Second Class Lower Division. Applicants with a Third Class may also be considered if they have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience.
  • A relevant Master’s degree (MA, MSc, or MPhil) in the Social Sciences or Humanities from the University of Ghana or any recognized/accredited university.
  • Submission of the following supporting documents:
    • Certificate(s)
    • Academic transcript(s)
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Research proposal
    • Personal background information

Please note: Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.
