The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, Legon, invites applications from qualified candidates for admission into its MA/MPhil. in Development Studies programme for the 2026/2027 academic year.

The programme is designed to train students in contemporary and scientific approaches to analysing development issues from multiple perspectives. It equips students with the knowledge and skills needed to undertake evidence-based, policy-relevant research within the context of developing countries.

Applications are open for the following full-time study options:

  • 12-month MA in Development Studies
  • 24-month MPhil. in Development Studies

Entry Requirements

MA Programme

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A good first degree with at least Second Class Lower Division in the Social Sciences or Humanities from the University of Ghana or any recognized/accredited university. Applicants with a Third Class may also be considered if they have a minimum of five (5) years of relevant working experience.
  • Submission of the following supporting documents:
    • Certificate(s)
    • Academic transcript(s)
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Proposal
    • Personal background information
  • Applicants are required to write an entrance examination and undergo an interview as part of the admission process.

MPhil. Programme

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Successful completion of the MA in Development Studies Programme at ISSER with at least an average grade of B+ and evidence of adequate research experience or potential.
  • Submission of the following supporting documents:
    • Certificate(s)
    • Academic transcript(s)
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
    • Proposal
    • Personal background information

Please note: Only shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview.
