Overview

The MA/MPhil. in Development Studies programme at ISSER is designed to equip students with the knowledge, analytical tools, and practical skills needed to examine and respond to complex development challenges. The programme trains students to apply current and scientific approaches to the study of development and to undertake evidence-based, policy-relevant research within a developing country context.

With its interdisciplinary orientation, the programme provides students with a strong grounding in development theory, research methods, and applied analysis. It combines academic rigour with practical learning to prepare graduates for careers in research, policy, development practice, and further academic work.

The programme seeks to

  • provide students with a thorough understanding of multiple development paradigms, including their opportunities and challenges;

  • deliver robust training in the scientific tools and techniques required for rigorous analysis across different dimensions of development; and

  • foster both theoretical and practical competencies through a blend of classroom instruction and hands-on fieldwork.
