Headshot of Prof. Felix Asante

The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) is delighted to welcome Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante back to the Institute following the successful completion of his tenure as Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Development at the University of Ghana.

Prof. Asante returns to ISSER, his academic cradle, after six years of distinguished service in one of the University's highest leadership positions, where he provided strategic direction for research, innovation and development across the institution.

A highly respected member of the ISSER community, Prof. Asante has devoted nearly three decades of his academic career to the Institute. Since joining ISSER as a Research Fellow in 1996, he has served in several leadership capacities, including Coordinator of Graduate Programmes, Head of the Economics Division, Deputy Director, and Director of the Institute from 2013 to 2019.

During his tenure as Director, Prof. Asante played a pivotal role in advancing ISSER's reputation as one of Africa's leading policy research institutions. He strengthened the Institute's research portfolio, expanded strategic partnerships, mobilised significant research and institutional funding, and reinforced ISSER's longstanding tradition of producing evidence that informs public policy and national development. His leadership also contributed to strengthening graduate training and expanding opportunities for research collaboration across Ghana and beyond.

Prof. Asante is an internationally recognised development economist whose research spans poverty and household food security, agricultural and development economics, decentralisation, public service delivery, health economics, and climate change. His work has informed policy and development programmes supported by organisations including the World Bank, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), the United Nations system, and the German Government.

As he rejoins the Institute's faculty, ISSER looks forward to benefiting once again from his wealth of experience in research, mentorship, institutional leadership, and policy engagement.

The entire ISSER community warmly congratulates Prof. Felix Asante on his successful tenure as Pro Vice-Chancellor and extends a heartfelt welcome as he returns to the place where much of his distinguished academic journey has been shaped.

Welcome home, Prof. Felix Ankomah Asante.
