2024 Mid-Year Budget Review

The 2024 mid-Year Budget was presented amidst high expectations regarding how the government is navigating its contours within the context of an IMF programme, debt rescheduling involving negotiations with commercial creditors, bondholders and bilateral creditors. Additionally, key stakeholders had high expectations for tax consolidation, a stable exchange rate, reduced inflation, and steps to create an enabling environment for the private sector to flourish. The following analysis presents a critical assessment of the 2024 mid-year budget.

Fourth Research School strengthens PhD capacity across eight Ghana universities

ISSER has successfully concluded the fourth edition of the Research School on Sustainable Development and Poverty Reduction -- a high-impact programme designed to strengthen PhD research capacity and foster interdisciplinary collaboration among doctoral students from universities across Ghana. This year’s edition brought together 19 competitively selected participants from eight universities and introduced a valuable new session on research fellowships and grants.

The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Robert Darko Osei as its new Director, effective 1 August 2025.

Prof. Osei is a distinguished economist and a longstanding member of the ISSER faculty, where he has contributed extensively to research, teaching, and policy engagement. Until July 2025, he served as Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Ghana, having previously held the role of Vice Dean.

Professor Peter Quartey has concluded his six-year tenure as Director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana, serving from August 1, 2019, to July 31, 2025. His tenure ushered in a period of exceptional growth and transformation, firmly positioning ISSER as a leader in economic and social research in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs).
