On behalf of my colleagues, I warmly welcome you to the website of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana. I am honoured to lead ISSER into its next chapter, building on a rich legacy of socio-economic research, academic training, and policy engagement. Our vision is clear: to position ISSER as Africa’s foremost institution for interdisciplinary research on poverty reduction and sustainable development. As a leading African think tank, ISSER brings together approximately 30 world-class researchers who conduct cutting-edge, policy-relevant work on the continent’s socio-economic priorities. We collaborate with global partners, undertake nationwide surveys, and curate high-quality datasets. Our portfolio spans interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects across Africa, and we welcome partnerships in research and advocacy.
We are ready to work with partners to drive Africa’s socio-economic transformation. Under the University of Ghana’s financial management framework, our robust accounting systems ensure value for money and full transparency for collaborators. Beyond publications in leading development journals, ISSER produces two flagship annual reports—the State of the Ghanaian Economy Report (SGER) and the Social Development Outlook (SDO)—which are widely cited globally. Our graduate programmes (MA, MPhil, and PhD) provide rigorous training that produces professionals who serve in academia, industry, government, NGOs, and multilateral institutions. ISSER’s strategic priorities reinforce our leadership in research, policy advice, and advocacy, while ensuring we adapt as the research and academic landscape evolves.
