The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Robert Darko Osei as its new Director, effective 1 August 2025.

Prof. Osei is a distinguished economist and a longstanding member of the ISSER faculty, where he has contributed extensively to research, teaching, and policy engagement. Until July 2025, he served as Dean of the School of Graduate Studies at the University of Ghana, having previously held the role of Vice Dean.

He brings strong academic credentials and extensive research experience to this leadership role. Prof. Osei has published widely in leading international journals on economic development issues. He was recently appointed to the Standing Panel on Impact Assessment (SPIA) of CGIAR (Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research). He also serves as the Country Director for the Ghana node of the African Centre of Excellence in Inequality Research (ACEIR).

Prof. Osei currently sits on several national and international boards, including Stanbic Bank Ghana, and is a co-chair of the Digital Agricultural Innovations and Services Initiative (DAISI) – a joint initiative led by J-PAL (based in MIT, USA) and the Centre for Effective Global Action (based in UC Berkeley, USA). He has previously served as a Director of the Ghana Statistical Service and was a member of the Presidential Fiscal Advisory Council from 2019 to 2021.

His research influence extends beyond Ghana through his active involvement in projects across West Africa, including projects in Ghana, Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali. Prof. Osei’s extensive experience in academia, research expertise, and commitment to mentorship and institutional development positions him strongly to guide ISSER’s continued growth.

"It is a privilege to take on this role following the remarkable leadership of Prof. Peter Quartey. I am committed to building on the strong foundation he has laid, and to working collaboratively with ISSER’s dedicated staff, research partners, and stakeholders to advance the Institute’s mission and deepen its impact," Prof. Osei said.

He is married and a father of three.

ISSER warmly welcomes Prof. Robert Darko Osei to this important role and looks forward to building on its legacy of excellence under his leadership.
